Fashion Foreword: Think Spring or go HOME!
By. D. Morris
I want spring! I want to feel warm. I want to see women wearing feathers, lace (no over-coating), jewels, shorts, strappy sandals, tanks; I want to see it all. I want skin, The Blonds, Versace’s plastic skirts, Chanel’s chunky clogs, stripes stripes stripes, platform Ashish, affordable Topshop, new designers at Target, and lastly I want it all and I want it fresh!
Going into the winter months I felt that this winter would be a real one, coat needed, gloves on, pashmina secure, and Uniqlo’s heat tech gear for under wearing warmth. So, in preparation for such an atmosphere, I secured the necessary winter garb and I am braving these temps nicely. Nevertheless, I would like for it all to end.
While viewing what spring had to offer I was invigorated as any upon sight of some of the greats in fashion doing what they did best, make hott clothes for the spring and summer months that would excite us all into dancing fits at the local bar or club. Proenza Schouler, Versace, Balmain, and the Blonds top my list for hottest brands to follow when looking for inspiration for your spring get ups.
I would die to see any woman brave the new plastic skirts at Versace. For spring, Donatella reinvigorated the houses trademark, sex, with dangerously short skirts, vivid pastels, and platforms that could probably cause death if one loses balance. The designer sights Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland (which comes out in March) as an inspiration for her fairytale like rendition of Versace sex appeal.
The Proenza boys are following right in line with a highly sexualized collection of surf friendly garments. Being inspired by surf culture the boys took their cues from California beach life. Don’t think wetsuits pulled down to here, think thigh grazing skirts and dresses inflected with tie dyed beach charm, and neon colors that would fancy any wave rider in need of some pieces that would complement their board.
Christophe Decarnin is at it again with his urban warrior motif for spring. Metallics, shoulder pads, military inspiration, tattered tees, hyper sexed dresses, and sickening models to deliver the punch! His designs are not for the light at heart nor the frugal at bests (myself included).
Of The Blonds I leave all of thee to take this piece of advice, be exuberant, theatric, polished, bright, and for GOD’s sake; Blond!
